Founder and Tutor: Greg James

Greg James is a dedicated Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and psychotherapist specialising in the resolution of trauma. With a Master's degree in counselling and psychotherapy practice and an SEP qualification endorsed by the European Association of SE and Somatic Experiencing International., he has immersed himself in the field of trauma, becoming a passionate advocate for trauma resolution and somatic training. Greg recognises the critical role of somatic practices in preventing burnout and chronic stress, especially for individuals working in the helping professions. This commitment extends beyond his private practice where he volunteers for the Somatic Experiencing® Committee for Humanitarian Response; a global initiative to bring relief and build resilience within the helping professions. Within this role, Greg leads the subcommittee for Africa, where he designs and teaches somatic workshops for non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

His expertise is evident not only in his clinical work but also in his contributions to published journal articles which include "The Client Experience of Somatic Experiencing" for the International Body Psychotherapy Journal (2024), and The Psychological impact of sending children to Boarding Schools in Britain: The British Journal of Psychotherapy (2023)  Greg is deeply invested in improving mental health and well-being on both an individual and societal level and believes in shaping a future where somatic practices and a physiological understanding of the impact of trauma are integral to the training landscape, ensuring a more resilient and compassionate approach for those working with or around trauma.

Greg is also the founder and director of the voluntary association, ACTS (Access to Community Trauma Support). Based in Southern Africa ACTS trains individuals on the frontline of social care in the prevention of secondary traumatisation and supports the mental health training of individuals at the grassroots level, ensuring that somatically informed treatment of trauma exists within the communities that would otherwise not have access to it.

The Centre for Somatic Resilience Training (CSRT) was set up in response to the growing interest in somatic therapeutic practices and the demand for affordable training that equips therapists to address trauma by integrating existing practices with effective somatic interventions.

CSRT facilitates accredited courses as well as workshops designed to help mitigate the impact of secondary trauma in high-pressure frontline service professions such as social work, blue light services, and non-profits working with traumatised populations. Training offers deep foundational knowledge of nervous system threat responses and proven effective somatic principles that students can integrate seamlessly into their existing work.
